Tasting notes | Sangiovese
Colvin Wines
was one of the first to plant Sangiovese
grapes in Pokolbin, after John
had travelled to Tuscany in the
early and mid 90s. Sangiovese is
an exciting lighter style red wine
from grapes originally from Tuscany
in Italy. The vines were originally
planted in 1996 on the rich red
clay soil of De Beyers Vineyard.
It has a lighter tannin feel in
the mouth and will continue to
develop and smooth out with further
bottle age. It is ideal with food,
particularly Italian cooking and
cheeses. Only the best vintages
of Sangiovese are used for making
the wine.

Both the 1999 and 2000 vintages
were excellent for Sangiovese
and are drinking very well
now.
